One of the worst experiences I have ever had in my 4 semesters here. If one be sick/miss out and get behind (I had an acute sinus infection during the beginning of this semester), he can never catch up. I had constant problems with getting the Dissection programs to work, and Supplimental Instruction times always conflicted with my schedule. Lab instructors were friendly yet it was apparent to me that their main goal was to end the lab as quickly as possible, instead of taking all the alloted time to talk about subjects in detail, by telling us to "read it ourselves". This was mostly the case with "histology slides". I suppose that one could teach himself anatomy to pass this class, but that idea ruins the entire concept of "class".
Most Exam questions were ridiculously ambiguous or ridiculously specific, with such brilliant choices such as: A) 1, 2 and 3, B) 1 and 3 C) 2 and 3 , D) 1 and 2 or E)all of the above. I'm not one to complain about multiple choice exams, but it seems the main point of these questions is to eliminate what makes Multiple-choice questions comprehensive: The Process of Elimination. Once there are choices so ambiguous that words in different choices have almost the exact same answer, It is hard to choose an answer. For people like me that recall information with association, this can be a major hurdle
Which brings me to another criticism: a few of the questions on the test were testing me on none of the main objectives in the chapters. One would think that the Exam would follow the basic outlines in the book, but at one point this was not the case. Most Questions were as nit-picky as "how many number of RBC does an average male have" or "list all the parts of a neuron if it were floating in 3-D Space from left to right" with no real picture to guide.
If an exam is scheduled on Thursday, A prof should not teach new material on Tuesday and put questions from that chapter on the exam for Thursday, especially if the material comprises of numerical figures and statistics.
I like the subject matter, but personally, it was thrown at me at such a fast pace that I couldn't learn all of it fast enough to perform well on the exams. If I were given them again, I would probably ace them at this point. I may fail this class due to my constant struggle to study. I have a bad feeling about the class as a whole, as if this class was specifically designed to "weed out" students.
Watch as my voice is ignored.
